AI Note Writer: Get a Free Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude Key
Updated
The note writer uses your own AI account. The quickest free option is a Google Gemini key from Google AI Studio: sign in, tap Get API key, copy it and paste it into Help me write. You can also sign in with OpenRouter (no copying), or paste an OpenAI or Anthropic key. The key stays in your browser.
Step by step
- 1Open Help me writeOn the Write step of the bouquet maker, tap Help me write next to Your note.
- 2Pick a providerChoose Gemini (free tier), OpenRouter (sign in, no copy-paste), ChatGPT (OpenAI) or Claude (Anthropic).
- 3Get your keyFollow the steps for your provider below, or tap Sign in with OpenRouter and approve.
- 4Test and connectPaste the key and tap Test key & connect. Tick Remember on this device if you want to keep it after closing the tab.
- 5Write your notePick a tone, add a detail or two, and tap one of the three drafts to put it on your card.
Why bring your own key?
Flower Bouquet Digital is free, and the AI note writer stays free because it runs on your own AI account rather than ours. Your key never reaches our servers: your browser talks to the AI provider directly, and the key is kept only in your browser (for the current tab, or on this device if you choose Remember).
Each set of three drafts costs a fraction of a cent on paid plans, and nothing on Gemini's free tier.
Gemini (Google Gemini): free tier
Free tier (a daily limit of requests). Paid use is well under a tenth of a cent per note.
Where to get a key: https://aistudio.google.com/app/apikey
- Open Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
- Go to “Get API key” and tap “Create API key”. Pick or create a project when asked.
- Copy the key (it starts with AIza) and paste it here.
- Spending limit: The free tier can't charge you. If you add billing to the project, set a budget alert in Google Cloud Billing.
Any model (OpenRouter): pay as you go
Pay as you go, one account for models from every major provider. Under a tenth of a cent per set of drafts with the default model.
Where to get a key: https://openrouter.ai/settings/keys
- Tap “Sign in with OpenRouter” below. Log in or create an account.
- Approve access. You come straight back here with a key, nothing to copy.
- Add a little credit on openrouter.ai if your account has none.
- Spending limit: When you approve, you can set a credit limit for the key. You can change it later under Settings → Keys.
ChatGPT (OpenAI): pay as you go
Pay as you go. About a tenth of a cent per set of drafts. A ChatGPT Plus plan does not include API credit.
Where to get a key: https://platform.openai.com/api-keys
- Sign in at platform.openai.com (the developer site, separate from the ChatGPT app).
- Add a few dollars of credit under Settings → Billing.
- Open API keys, tap “Create new secret key”, then copy it (it starts with sk-).
- Spending limit: Under Settings → Limits, set a monthly budget. Prepaid credit also caps what you can spend.
Claude (Anthropic): pay as you go
Pay as you go. About a fifth of a cent per set of drafts with Claude Haiku. A Claude Pro plan does not include API credit.
Where to get a key: https://console.anthropic.com/settings/keys
- Sign in to the Claude Console at console.anthropic.com.
- Buy a little credit under Settings → Billing.
- Open Settings → API keys, tap “Create key”, then copy it (it starts with sk-ant-).
- Spending limit: Under Settings → Limits, set a monthly spend limit for the workspace.
Is it safe to paste my key?
The key is stored only in your browser and sent only to the provider you picked, over HTTPS. It never goes to our server, database, logs or analytics, and the key field is masked in session recordings. Tap Disconnect to delete it. For extra safety, set a spending limit and create a separate key just for this app, so you can revoke it at any time.
Troubleshooting
- “That key didn't work”: copy the whole key again, or create a new one.
- “Out of credit”: add a little credit on the provider's billing page. A ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro subscription does not include API credit.
- “Busy or hit your limit”: wait a minute. Free tiers have a daily request limit.
- Want a different model? In the writer, tap Model and enter any model id your account can use.
FAQ
Is the AI note writer free?
The writer itself is free. It runs on your own AI account: Google Gemini has a free tier, and paid providers charge a fraction of a cent per set of drafts.
Do you store my API key?
No. The key stays in your browser and goes straight to the AI provider. It never reaches our servers.
Which AI providers work?
Google Gemini, OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), and OpenRouter, which gives one account access to models from every major provider.
Does my ChatGPT Plus subscription work?
No. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro are app subscriptions; the API is billed separately on the developer platforms. Gemini's free tier or OpenRouter are the easiest alternatives.
